Travis' Summary

Frindle
by Andrew Clements

This book is about a boy, a teacher, and a word.  In the beginning of the book Nick (the boy) just got into Ms.Granger’s (the teacher) class.  Nick and Ms.Granger both have something in common- they both like words.  Another thing about Nick is that he does not like Ms.Granger because she’s really mean!
In the middle of the book Nick and his friend Janet were walking home from school and Janet saw a gold pen.  Then she yelled to Nick, “Look at this!” Nick came over and held the pen.  He said, “Frindle.” “What’s a frindle Janet asked.  “I don’t know actually.”
The next day Nick asked for a Frindle a lot.  Ms.Granger didn’t like it much.  After school he went to a store and there were pens all over the place.  Nick asked for a frindle and the guy was puzzled, so Nick said a pen.
In the end of the book Nick has a fight with Ms.Granger about the word frindle. The word frindle spred like wildfire. Nick was actually was on TV  .Ms.Granger and Nick became good friends.  When Nick was a lot older Ms.Ganger sent him a letter.  Nick opened it and it said, Nick, frindle is in the dictionary.  Then Nick looked over and saw a dictionary and he searched for frindle and he finally saw it, frindle.

Madi's Summary

Emily Windsnap

Emily Windsnap is a very courageous girl who is fun, loving, and caring.
One day Emily  asked her mother if  she could  try swimming lessons, but her mother snapped and said no.  Emily  begged  and  begged and her mother finally said yes.
When  Emily got in the pool and her legs touched the water, she felt something, it was scaly then, she noticed she had a tail.  At first she was mad, then she got out of the water but then she thought that it was really cool she pretended that she was sick to get out of class.
That night she snuck off the boat that she lived on with just her mom.  She snuck out so she could get used to her new tail.
The next night met a new mermaid friend named  Shona.  Emily and Shona had figured out that her mom’s boyfriend Mr. Beestone was drugging her mom. So Emily told Shona to bring her to the great Mermer Ref where the king of all Mermaid (Neptune) was keeping Emily’s father prisoner in the under water jail.
Emily had to save her father and tell her mom she was being drugged.  First  Emily went to the under water jail to rescue her father.  Then she went to tell her mother and she brought her father with her as proof.  From there on they lived as a family again.

Adrienne's Summary

Stargirl
by Jerry Spinelli

This book is about a girl named Stargirl, (and yes, that is her real name) and  guy named Leo. Stargirl is going to a real school for the first time, she’s been home schooled all her life. When she first goes to Mica High School everyone thinks she’s some sort of freak. She wears long dresses and no make-up and plays the ukulele and has a pet rat.
Then Leo realizes he likes her, I mean like likes her, but he's embarrassed about it.  Before we knew it they were considered boyfriend and girlfriend.  After a while  Leo starts think that people are excluding him because he's dating Stargirl, so he tries to change her, and tries to make her more ‘normal’. Pretty soon she’s Susan, the normal, popular cheer leading teenage girl. Stargirl doesn’t like being Susan, she finds it boring. When Leo finds this out, he encourages her to change back.  After this happens, everything goes back to normal and it’s great! That is, until Stargirl moves away and Leo thinks that he may never see her again.
I loved this book!  It is creative, fun and really entertaining. I would recommend it to (almost) anyone. The second book is even better, but it makes no sense if you don't read the first.

Molly's Summary

Stargirl

One day in the school of the Electrons in  Mica, Arizona Leo was sitting in class when he heard “Did you hear about Stargirl?”  From behind him and he kept on hearing the name Stargirl.  Then his buddy Kevin said “Did you hear about Stargirl?”  “Who is Stargirl?”  Leo asked Kevin.  “You’ll find out,”  Kevin replied.
At lunch Leo discovered that Kevin was right and he did figure out who Stargirl was.  Stargirl was over at a table where no one else was sitting and she was eating her lunch.  Then she reached into her bag that she had next to her and pulled out a Ukulele and started to pluck some strings.  Stargirl walked over to Alan Ferko and started to play to the song “Happy birthday” but was singing it to.  Everyone just stared at her.
Whenever it was someones birthday Stargirl would walk over to them at lunch and sing and play to them.  Everyone thought that Stargirl was a dork.  But what no one realized was that she didn’t even notice what they were saying about her and it seemed like she didn’t really care.  But then, Stargirl started doing even weirder things like when they had indoor gym because it was raining Stargirl would go outside on to the Soccer field and she would start dancing.  Soon Stargirl became very popular and all of the girls were out side rain dancing.  Soon everyone was acting like Stargirl. Then one day Leo realizes that he has a crush on Stargirl.  So he followed her after school and she went to the desert.  She just sat there.  Then she went home.  Leo still followed her.  He even went into her driveway.  He started walking home but he just couldn’t keep walking.  He had to turn around and go back to Stargirl’s house.  He walked back into Stargirl’s driveway  Then the front door opened.  Stargirl walked out of her house.  She said “Leo, I know you are there,” she said in a soft tone.  After that Leo and Stargirl started going out.
One day when it was lunch Leo  looked over at the table where Stargirl usually sat to eat, there was the Electrons cheer lead squad.  Then when basketball season came and Leo went to the games he saw Stargirl cheering.  She was part of the squad.  That was why all of the cheer leaders were over talking to Stargirl the other day.
The Electrons never won any basketball games in the past seasons.  This season though, they were winning so many.  Everyone was cheering at every game and Stargirl started feeling bad about it.  She wanted to make the other team feel good to so at one of the games she started cheering for the other team.  Everyone hated what Stargirl was doing.  Even a person threw a tomato at Stargirl when someone from the opposite team got hurt and Stargirl was helping them to their feet.
Then a couple of days later Leo and Kevin had Stargirl on their school TV show that they were planning for a couple of weeks.  There is a jury the show and they ask the guest questions.  Except after the basketball game episode everyone is commenting to her and saying mean things about her and asking her why would she want to help the other team win by cheering for them after they had won there first game in many years.  Because the jury was commenting on Stargirl instead of asking her questions the show turned out terrible.
Leo started not hanging out with Stargirl because if he was around her no one would talk to him either except for Kevin who had to because  they were best friends.  Because no one was talking to Stargirl, she decided to go back to her real name.  Susan.  She changed her look and everything.  No one recognized her or anything so she went through school like that for about a week or two.  Then one day, Leo was at school and he did not see Stargirl.  He just figured that she was sick or something so he didn’t freak out about it.  Then he didn’t see her the next day either.  Or the next , or even the next.  In fact he didn’t see Stargirl for about three weeks.  Leo thought that it would be a good idea to go and see Archie because Archie was good friends with Stargirl so he would probably know where Stargirl was.  Leo went over to Archie's after school and talked to him.  Archie said that Stargirl had moved.  Where, he did not know.  Leo never saw Stargirl again.
